Honor's Malaysian branch has released two new models: the Honor X5b and the Honor X5b Plus. But are they really new? No! We already know them as... the Honor X5c and the Honor X5c Plus!
Apart from the fact that Honor offers models with similar features and names - Honor X5b and Honor X5b Plus, it is very puzzling what the point of releasing the Honor X5b and Honor X5b Plus models is, in turn, identical to the subsequent "X" models - Honor X5c and Honor X5c Plus. Could Honor be launching a whole bunch of budget phones like this?
To make matters even more interesting, the base models in this series don't differ significantly from the "Plus" models. The new Honor X5b and Honor X5b Plus feature the same 6.74-inch IPS screens with HD+ resolution and 90 Hz refresh rate, and identical MediaTek Helio G81 processors supported by 4 GB of RAM. Both "new" models also have the same 5260 mAh batteries with 15-watt charging, side-mounted fingerprint readers, 5-megapixel selfie cameras, a mini jack, and IP54 waterproofing. Both run Android 15 with MagicOS 9.0. So what's the difference? The Honor X5d has 64GB of internal storage and a 13-megapixel camera (f/2.2), while the Honor X5d Plus has 128GB of storage and a 50-megapixel camera (f/1.8). Both rear cameras also have secondary QVGA sensors. The smartphones are priced at 369 and 459 ringgit, respectively, or $93-115.
